Gotta Wear Shades

Gotta Wear Shades Newsletter Header Blog post 600x400 1

[June 20, 2023 – Blog] In the 1980s, Barbara and Pat MacDonald’s careers as a musical duo were taking off. Their band, Timbuk 3, was booking gigs right and left, and even had their debut album coming out. The story goes that Barbara said, “the future is looking so bright, we’ll have to wear sunglasses.” Pat scribbled on a piece of paper, The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades. Thus, the catchy title song to their album was born.

Although there are mixed reviews on what the true meaning of the song is trying to get across, whenever I hear this song, it reminds me to see the bright side of our futures. When negativity circles around us, or a chorus of naysayers tries to convince us that our plans and dreams just won’t work, put on your shades and face the day with a can-do attitude. Miracles never cease.

As vacations fill our calendars this summer, I hope all of you will look at this season a bit differently. Now is the time to soak up the sun (with sunscreen, of course!), leave some of your cares behind and focus on making memories with the special people in your life.

Part of the beauty of vacations, or just getting away for a few days, is that unexpected plans and experiences seem to materialize from nowhere. When we give ourselves time to think and change our daily routine, the best ideas emerge.

Meanwhile, I will be wearing my shades,
